For years, the Government of Catalonia has been promoting industry 4.0, digitalization and innovation and emerging companies. One of their best-known lines of help is Startup Capital; which aims to contribute to the initial stages of emerging technological companies. It is a direct help of up to 99,000€ for emerging technology startups that need funding to carry out technology validation activities, develop their product or service and validate business model hypotheses and interest in the market. It helps startups to grow in the early stages.
What's new in Startup Capital 2022
With the 2022 call for proposals, there is a significant change in the amount of aid. Until now the grant was a maximum of 75,000€, but this year the maximum grant will be increased to 99,000€. The aid intensity will be 75% of the project presented.
Who is the Startup Capital grant for?
The beneficiaries of the aid are small emerging technology companies (startups) with their own technology and an operating establishment in Catalonia that meet the following requirements:
- Constitution in the Commercial Registry as At least 1 day before of the publication of the corresponding call in the DOGC or as Maximum 18 months before the date of submission of the request for assistance.
- They must have own legal personality and not be quoted.
- The founding team of the company must be entrepreneurs and have the majority of the company's capital (51%).
- The total funding received in the form of public grants, unsecured loans from the entrepreneurial team and capital contributions (not from the entrepreneurial team) is less than 250,000€.
- Not having a distribution of benefits
- Not being the result of a business concentration project or they have taken over another company.
- Be in a registered census situation with the Tax Agency that accredits the carrying out of economic activity.

What does this aid offer and what is funding?
This is an aid intended to finance actions derived from the Business Plan. From its administration and management, to the development and commercialization of products and services. Company personnel, investment in equipment and materials, space rental, development of communication strategies, and many other items may count as justifiable costs or expenses.
What is the application deadline for Startup Capital 2022?
The application deadline for Startup Capital's 2022 call is now closed. It is expected that during 2023 it will reopen during the month of May.

Startup Capital is direct help for technology-based companies that need funding to be able to undertake the initial phases of their business plan, develop their product or service and validate their business model in order to reach the market.
So far, there have already been 4 Startup Capital calls, with a recurrence of 1 call per year. Thanks to the distribution of this aid, more than 500 qualified jobs have been created and the funded startups have managed to raise more than 33.5 million euros from private investors.
