The 2017 Entrepreneurship Map, presented by Startup South Summit, reveals that almost half of entrepreneurs are recurrent entrepreneurs.
The entrepreneur becomes professional, as shown in the Startup South Summit Report, which took into account a sample of 1,585 projects out of the 3,516 submitted to the Startup Competition. Of the total number of projects, 47% are of Spanish origin and 53% are international. The study suggests that the maturity and development of Spanish entrepreneurial initiatives is increasing: 9% have between 3 and 5 years of life (double what they represented in 2016 and 2% more than in Europe), 19% of projects have achieved growth development (compared to 17% last year). On the other hand, the number of startups that have failed has fallen, 55% compared to 62% in 2016. Fact that demonstrates a improvement in the trend of Spanish startups. As pending subjects in entrepreneurship, female representation remains, only 18% of projects are led by women. Even if these projects fail less, only 3 out of 10 female entrepreneurial initiatives fall, compared to 58% of projects founded by men, the attitude of women remains very conservative in this sector.
Another challenge in entrepreneurship remains funding.. Entrepreneurs rely mainly on their own funds (57%) and resources from friends or family (24%) as sources of funding for their projects. However, the study shows a slight increase in supporters of using private funds (15%) or alternative funding formulas (2%) .Finally, The results of startups place 14% of them with a positive EBITDA, these are projects that aim to close this year with a turnover of between 150,000 and 500,000 euros.Source: Entrepreneurs and Entrepreneurship Map 2017
