Sycai Technologies is one of the 27 Catalan startups that won the Startup Capital grant
Sycai Technologies is a technology-based startup that was founded in Barcelona in 2020 with a clear purpose: to improve healthcare through Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. The company has developed a radiology assistant that is integrated into the workflow of hospitals and that directly accesses all CT and abdominal magnetic resonance imaging performed, being able to analyze them before they are opened in order to directly provide the results on the image. This product, called Sycai Medical, helps radiologists to detect, classify pancreatic cystic lesions on CT scans and abdominal magnetic resonances. It also allows radiologists to compare the results with past cases of other patients to confirm the diagnosis. According to recent published studies, 25% of the world's population has cystic lesions in the abdomen, but less than 15% of people are diagnosed with these lesions throughout their lives and, more surprisingly, 70% are diagnosed accidentally during an examination of another organ. The large number of undetected cases of this type of cystic lesions in the abdomen is due to their asymptomatic nature and to the very rapid degenerative evolution of patients once they have developed cancer.The main added value of Sycai Medical is the automation of patient monitoring, which greatly facilitates the work of radiologists and, in addition, increases the accuracy of surveillance. Another strength of Sycai Medical is that it combines the information obtained from the test with data from the patient's clinical history, in this way it can predict in a much more concise way the probability of malignancy of each of the lesions detected. This is of vital importance when it comes to this type of injury since it can lead to pancreatic cancer, the fourth deadliest cancer in Europe (with 92,000 deaths per year) and an average life expectancy from diagnosis of less than 5 months. In this way, Sycai Medical becomes a medical assistant capable of anticipating the diagnosis of cancer, correctly detecting these types of lesions when they are still benign and predicting their evolution. The Sycai Technologies team is made up of scientists and businessmen who have solid experience in research, programming and business development. We highlight its CEO, Sara Toledano, Senior Industrial Engineer and MBA, its CTO, Javier García, Senior Industrial Engineer and PhD in Computer Vision, its CSO, Julia Rodríguez, a graduate in Biology and a PhD in Biomedicine, and its Medical Advisor, Julia Arribas, a doctor specializing in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Startup Capital It is a call for grants in the form of a non-refundable grant granted by ACCIÓ, the Agency for Business Competitiveness of the Government of Catalonia, to recently established startups (they cannot exceed 18 months of life) that are technologically based and that are based in Catalonia. This is a very difficult and competitive line of aid. From Intelectium, we have become the leading financial partner for Sycai Technologies. The first help we have obtained for them was the Startup Capital of 2020. In a few days, we will get to work on the request for Neotec 2021, which is expected to open imminently. Neotec is also a very competitive line of grants, but we are sure that the potential of Sycai Technologies will also make it the winner of this other line of grants at the national level.
