Summary of the Report
The profile of Business Angels in Spain It is occupied by the age group between 35 and 54 years old, it is during this age that investment activity is most frequent. With regard to female incorporation into the investment segment, there has not been a very significant increase compared to the previous report, reaching only 9 per cent of the total, percentage even lower than that observed in other countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, where female participation is much higher. The year 2016 was very positive in relation to the introduction of new investors in the market. These new investment acquisitions could explain the increase in Business Angels, which have less than 5 clients in their portfolio. Along the same path, they have also increased the proportion of large investors who already accumulate significant portfolios with more than 21 participating companies. In general, investors usually start investing through the arrival of opportunities presented by friends or partners (29%), followed by those who actively seek to start investing and for this purpose join a network of business angels (26%). In this regard, co-investment with other Business Angels (85.9%) and venture capital funds (43.8%) are still the main investment options. Finally, the reasons for dismissing an investment are mainly determined by the trust that the entrepreneurial team transmits to the investor. When he doubts about management skills, he usually discards the project, no matter how much it contains a good business idea.
