IFEM loans: complementary funding for the first rounds of investment

The Institut Català de Finances (ICF) manages venture capital and co-investment programs with private investors through the IFEM.

IFEM helps to close the first rounds of investment by innovative startups and SMEs that have a strong scientific or technological base through funds from the JEREMIE initiative of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Currently, IFEM is reinvesting the returns on the investments it has made to date. The main requirement presented by IFEM is that of “co-investment” with other private investors, meaning that for a project to be eligible to receive its funding, it must have aroused investment interest in another Business Angel, Accelerator or Investment Fund accredited by ICF, such as the Ship2b Foundation, IESE BAN, Economists BAN, ESADE BAN, Samaipata Ventures, Smartech Capital and Nuclio Venture builder.

What type of funding is it?

Funding joint venture with private investors (Business Angels) in the form of participatory loan. In addition, IFEM may allocate part of the formalized amount (up to a maximum of 15% or €20,000) to invest in the company's capital.

Who can be a beneficiary?

Innovative technological and/or science-based entrepreneurs or companies that seek funding for their projects in the early stages and/or first rounds of funding.

What is the amount of the aid?

between 50,000€ and 200,000€ per project. Conditioned to investment in the form of capital of at least the same amount, by private investors acting as “Business Angels”. In order to accompany companies in subsequent rounds of financing, IFEM may increase the amount invested (follow-on) to an additional 200,000 euros under the same conditions.

What interest rate does aid have?

Fixed interest: Euríbor At 12 months plus an interest from 5%.Variable interest: to be determined depending on the evolution of the business plan (up to a maximum of 7%).

What requirements do you have?

The request must be made before a deadline of 6 months since the last private investment.

What commission do you have?

It has an opening commission of the 0.5% about the formalized amount.

What guarantees do they ask for?

They don't ask for guarantees.

What is the amortization period?

Como Maximum of 5 years, with up to 2-year grace period.

How is the request made?

The corresponding request must be made through an intermediary accredited: network of business angels or private investment company or vehicle.
