Up to 1.5 M€ in funding for SMEs and midcaps: CDTI 2022 Cervera Program

Partially refundable loan for individual R&D projects developed by companies that collaborate with Technology Centers

Through the Cervera Funding Program, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities together with the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) offer uninterrupted funding for innovation projects in small and medium-sized companies and technology centers.

Type of funding

Current loan with a non-refundable tranche (TNR) of up to 33% of the aid granted, calculated on 75% of the total approved budget; comparable to a non-refundable grant.

The maximum aid intensity will be 85% of the total fundable budget.

Main features

  • Fixed interest rate: 1-year Euribor.
  • Return period: Between 7 and 10 years, including a grace period of between 2 and 3 years.
  • Required guarantee: 5% on the refundable tranche.
  • Advance payment: 35% of the total granted, as long as this does not exceed the maximum limit of 250,000€. The beneficiary companies will receive the rest of the funding in tranches and depending on the milestones defined in the project.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-cap companies (MIDcaps) with tax address in Spain.

Main requirements

To be eligible for aid, projects submitted to the CDTI Cervera Program must:

  • Have the participation of one or more technology centers (at the state level) or “Cervera” Technological Centers of Excellence of at least 10% of the approved project.-Justify a minimum fundable budget of 175,000€.
  • To have a duration between 12 and 36 months.
  • Get involved in any of the Priority technologies previously defined:
  1. Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence,
  2. Eco-Innovation, -Intelligent Manufacturing,
  3. Technologies for health,
  4. safe and healthy food chain,
  5. Advanced mobile networks, -Advanced materials,
  6. Intelligent transport and information protection.

Eligible Projects

Individual research and business development projects carried out in collaboration with State-wide Technology Centers that involve a significant improvement of a production process, product or service and demonstrate a technological differential aspect over existing technologies in the market.

Eligible costs

Expenses for personnel, instruments, materials, research, knowledge and patents, consulting costs and equivalent services, and general project expenses.

Projects that are beneficiaries of aid from the CDTI Cervera Program have the possibility of obtaining a binding “ex ante” motivated report after formalizing the Cervera loan to qualify the nature of the project, allowing them to benefit from tax deductions for R&D.
