What is the CDTI?
El CDTI o Center for Industrial Technological Development is the instrument of the General State Administration that manages, subsidizes and internationalizes business R&D projects. It also regulates Spanish participation in international R+D+I organizations, such as Horizon 2020 and Eureka.
It is the body that manages requests for aid and support for innovative projects by Spanish companies at the national and international levels.
What is the purpose of the CDTI?
The objective of the CDTI is to contribute to the improvement of the technological level of technology companies through the following functions:
- Promotion of the international transfer of business technology and support services for technological R&D.
- Promotion and management of Spanish collaboration in international technological cooperation programs.
- Support for the creation and consolidation of technology-based companies.
- Approval of public aid for innovation through grants or partially reimbursable grants to R&D projects developed by companies and technical-economic assessment.
What funding programs does the CDTI have?
There are several CDTI funding programs:
Eurostars Program
Eurostars its main objective is to support SMEs with intensive R&D activities with market-oriented projects. It is jointly promoted by Eureka and the European Commission. It currently has the participation of 25 member states of Eureka and the CE.Eurostars supports SMEs that are intensive in R&D by creating a sustainable European mechanism to support these organizations, encouraging and encouraging the creation of economic activities based on R&D results, helping to introduce new products, processes and services to the market more quickly. It also promotes technological and business development by encouraging the internationalization of these companies and ensures public funding for project participants.
In short, Eurostars is aimed at generating R&D projects in a consortium led by startups or SMEs that are intensive in R&D. These projects must present a disruption in the technical state of the art and a powerful commercial challenge that allows companies to make a qualitative leap compared to their current position in the market.
The entities participating in the Eurostars projects receive aid at the national level through their funding agencies, in the case of Spain, through CDTI.
Innovation Hotline Program
La Innovation Hotline The CDTI is a financial instrument that was created with the objective of being able to show support for applied projects close to the market that have medium or low technological risk and short periods of investment recovery.
This is an open call throughout the year that funds in the form of partially refundable aid, with a loan tranche and a grant tranche. It has a fixed interest rate with two options depending on the amortization period chosen: for 3-year amortizations, the interest rate will be calculated at 1-year Euribor +0.2%, for 5-year amortizations it will be calculated at 1-year Euribor +1.2%. The intensity of the aid is up to 75% of the approved budget, although it can reach 85% if it is co-financed with FEDER funds. The minimum eligible budget is 175,000 euros and the projects submitted must last 6 to 18 months.
The Non-Refundable Arrangement of Aid (TNR) will be calculated on a maximum of 75% of the approved budget and for projects approved with CDTI funds it will be 2% and for projects approved with FEDER funds it will be 5%. This aid has a grace period of 1 year from the end of the project.
Neotec Program
Neotec It funds non-refundable startups and small innovative companies whose business strategy is based on the development of their own technology. They must be newly established companies, with a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 3 years old.
The NEOTEC program offers aid in the form of a non-refundable grant of up to 250,000 euros.
Cervera Program
El Cervera Program It also belongs to the CDTI, it is a current loan with partially repayable aid with coverage of up to 85% of the total budget.
These are grants for individual R&D projects developed by companies that collaborate with State-wide Technology Centres and that fall within Cervera's priority technologies.
This is a new call from CDTI, published for the first time in 2019 and is open all year round.
The applicant company must finance at least 15% of the project budget with its own resources.
Cien Program
ONE HUNDRED, a strategic project of National Business Research Consortiums is another of the programs funded by the CDTI. The Cien Program supports large R&D projects developed in collaboration by business groups and oriented to planned research in very strategic areas that have a clear potential for international projection.
Each consortium must consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of eight companies.
This is a partially reimbursable grant that funds up to 85% of the project budget. The minimum budget that can be requested is 5 million euros and the maximum is 20 million euros.
Industrial research activities must exceed 50% of the total budget and the duration of the project must be between 36 and 48 months.
Research and Development Program (PID)
PID of CDTI funds applied business programs, its objective is the creation and significant improvement of a process, product or service, including industrial research and experimental development activities.
This is a partially reimbursable grant for which you can apply for it all year round.
The CDTI PID Program requires a minimum eligible budget of 175,000 euros.
Invest Program
CDTI has projects such as Invest, a new co-investment initiative with private investors specialized in innovative companies. The objective of the Innvierte Program is to promote business innovation by supporting venture capital investment in technology-based or highly innovative companies.
The Innvierte Program is implemented through a closed type collective investment company, self-managed and subject to the supervision of the National Securities Market Commission.
Innvierte places special emphasis on encouraging the creation of a specialized ecosystem that not only covers funding in the different phases of the life cycle of companies but also offers support for their management needs, knowledge of technology and access to international leaders.
Feder Program - Interconnect
With this program, the CDTI aims to promote cooperation at the regional level, carry out projects oriented to the needs of the regions and generate innovative capacities that promote greater territorial cohesion.
